1. Almost a quarter of all the bones of an adult human are in the foot. That’s 26 bones in each foot.
2. There are 33 joints and more than 100 muscles, tendons and ligament in the feet.
3. The bones in the foot are not fully fused(ossified) until adulthood our early twenties. When we first start school there are still 45 separate bone centres
4. We walk an average of 10,000 steps daily exerting 2 and ½ times our body weight on some foot joints with every step.
5. The feet are furthest from the heart and so often the first to be affected by poor circulation and other health conditions.
6. It may be hard to believe but here in the UK our shoe sizing system was developed by Edward II in 1324 and is still used today. Based on the size of a barley corn, an old English measurement, a size represents 1/3 of an inch and a half size 1/6.
